October is all about pumpkins, and this year some local farm stands are offering a very special variety.

New York is famous for its unique gourds. The largest pumpkin ever grown in North America, for example, was produced right here in the Empire State, and another New York farmer just took home giant pumpkin honors in Saratoga Springs, NY for a 2,018-pound behemoth (below). "Franken-Pumpkins" in New York State

The Frankenstein-themed pumpkins for sale at some of New York's most creative farm stands are created by a process called "molding". Quite literally, a mold of Frankenstein's monster is placed around early-stage pumpkins. As the gourds grow, they fill out the mold (below).
