The Hudson Valley is scrambling to deal with unexpected snowfall impacting the Hudson Valley this Friday morning.

Early morning commuters were hit with slippery roads and snow-covered cars on Friday. A storm generating moderate snowfall shifted its course on Thursday evening. The snow was expected to fall well south of our area, but is now directly impacting the morning commute.

Salters and road crews did not have enough time to properly treat most roads, leaving them covered in a half inch of slippery snow. This has already been causing many early morning accidents.

Hudson Valley traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, says that there are multiple vehicles off the road on the NYS Thruway south of exit 17. A similar situation is happening on 684 and I-84 near Brewster. There are also multiple accidents being reported on the Taconic from Dutchess through Putnam.

Salters and plows are on the area bridges, but slippery conditions have slowed down traffic crossing the Hudson. As of now, Metro North has been largely unaffected with trains on or close to schedule.

Schools have begun to declare 2-hour delays, messaging parents who are mostly unprepared for today's surprise storm.
