M*A*S*H Star Loretta Swit to Appear at Animal Activism Fundraising Dinner Featuring Murder Mystery Performance

The Paws For Our Cause Fun-Raiser features a cocktail hour with the admired actress for autographs and conversation prior to a murder mystery dinner show.

Acclaimed actress Loretta Swit, best known for her iconic starring role as Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on TV’s most honored series, M*A*S*H, will make an appearance at the Paws for our Cause Fun-raiser, a fundraising event at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck on Saturday, July 20.

Swit, an avid animal activist, is the founder of SwitHeart Animal Alliance, a nonprofit whose mission is to help prevent animal cruelty. The charity dinner will benefit her organization. According to Swit: “I set up SwitHeart Animal Alliance to prevent cruelty and end animal suffering; to promote and cooperate with numerous nonprofit organizations and programs that protect, rescue, train, and care for animals, preserving their habitat; while raising public awareness about issues that concern domestic, farm, exotic, wild, and native animals and their well being.”

A cocktail hour begins at 6 pm, during which Swit will appear for book signings and a discussion about the important work her nonprofit achieves. At 7 pm guests will experience a delicious three-course dinner and cash bar, while enjoying a murder mystery show presented by Murder Café. The performance is of acclaimed original play, The Art of Murder, a comedic mystery that takes place in the 1960s featuring Simon Templar (aka The Saint). The show made its successful Hudson Valley premier at Mohonk Mountain House’s Mystery Weekend in March to much applause.

The Art of Murder was written by Frank Marquette, who will also be directing and producing the fundraiser. “Loretta is such a significant actress and activist, and I’m thrilled to support her work,” Marquette says. “Each year, Murder Café raises thousands of dollars for local and national charities. Our show, The Art of Murder, is a real crowd-pleaser and I’m excited to host a performance for such an important cause.”

The Paws for our Cause Fun-Raiser is limited to 80 guests. Tickets are $125 and must be purchased in advance. Visit murdercafe.com or call 845-475-7973 to reserve your spot.
