Additional Information

"When describing the career arc of pianist Matthew Shipp, 'prolific' is the definitive understatement. Now pushing 60, this longtime downtown New York City force has a staggering oeuvre as leader and collaborator. Yet his mission—to reinvent jazz piano—has remained constant." — Brad Cohan, JazzTimes

Elysium Furnace Works continues its 2020 season with a rare solo appearance by pianist and composer Matthew Shipp. Called "the premier jazz pianist of his generation" by Forced Exposure, Shipp will perform in advance of a new solo piano release, The Piano Equation, at the acoustically sublime Howland Cultural Center on their 19th c. Steinway grand piano. Shipp's longtime label and separate distributor of this new solo recording, AUM Fidelity, will be on hand for this concert, with extensive selections from AUM Fidelity's substantial and historic catalog available for sale.

Matthew Shipp will perform on Saturday, March 7 at 8 PM. Tickets will be $20 in advance and $25 at the door — advance tickets are on sale now at https://shipp.brownpapertickets.com.
