Donata “Nettie” Cannella, a Longtime Area Resident, Dies at 94
Donata “Nettie” Cannella, 94, an area resident since 1995 and formerly of Yonkers, went home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2017 at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck.
Born in New York City on August 26, 1922, she was the daughter of Vito and Antoinette (Fella) Gallo. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. Nettie loved cooking and will be fondly remembered for her eggplant parmigiana and pizzelles. She loved spending time with her family more than anything in life.
On January 13, 1946 in Washington Heights, Nettie married Gerard “Jerry” Cannella who predeceased her on May 22, 2007. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jim and Peggy Cannella of Fishkill, and Geri and Ralph Pasqualina of Tivoli; her grandchildren, Keith and Jennifer Cannella, Matthew and Jennifer Cannella, and Lauren Holder and her fiancé Andrew Glikin-Gusinsky; her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ryan, Madeline and Christopher; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Luke, Vincent and Rocco Gallo, Lucy Auger, Mary Alaimo and Ann Jodoin.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
