Domestic Dispute Leads to Stabbing in Moving Car, Police Say
The incident occurred in Columbia County early Wednesday, at the intersection of Route 23 and Route 9.
At approximately 7:35 a.m. Columbia Couny Sheriff's were dispatched by 911 to the intersection of Route 23 and Route 9 in the Town of Greenport for a reported stabbing.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the stabbing had occurred in a vehicle while it was traveling in that area, and the incident stemmed from a domestic related dispute.
The victim and the suspect were both located near the intersection, at which time the victim was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The victim was treated and released. The knife used in the alleged assault was recovered at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Francisco Otalaro, 26, of Cairo N.Y. was taken into custody and interviewed by investigators. Otalaro did make admissions as to his involvement in the assault and was arrested.
Otalaro was charged with Assault in the second-degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
He was arraigned and remanded to Columbia County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
