Anita P. Ladue, 95, a resident of Highland, New York, died peacefully after a brief illness at Vassar Brothers Hospital, on February 13, 2018, surrounded by family.
Born in Chazy, New York on March 11, 1922, she was the daughter of Hector A. and Elizabeth Girard Poissant. She attended Chazy Central Rural School and graduated in 1942. She was Valedictorian and her future husband, Joseph was Salutatorian. He always bragged that his wife was smarter than he was. She attended Crane School of Music in Potsdam and was an accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist. Anita worked for the Air Force and for Ayerst Laboratories as a secretary. On May 3, 1947, Anita married Joseph F. Ladue, her childhood sweetheart, at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy, New York. In 1964, the family moved to Highland, New York. Anita and Joseph were active members of the community, especially St. Augustine’s Parish, where they started the One More Time Thrift Shop.
Anita leaves behind a large, loving family. She is survived by her children, Mary Jo Goth (Gary) of Pleasant Valley, Stanley Ladue (Debra) of Kingston, Lou Ann Judge (David) of Highland, Susan Ladue-Tong (Perry) of Highland, Carol Doyle (Douglas) of Ulster Park, Christine Paine (Ronald) of Highland, and Michael Ladue (Jeannine) of Poughkeepsie. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Johanna Goth Finegan, PhD, her husband Timothy Finegan, PhD and their daughters Rachel and Hannah of Waynesville, Ohio; Karen Goth Cabarrus, M.D., her husband, Brian Cabarrus, M.D. and their daughter Aubree of Winterville, NC; Danielle Ladue Platt and her husband Kevin and their children Olivia and Caleb of Poughkeepsie; Christopher Ladue of Kingston; Kevin Judge, PhD and his wife Kelley and their son Aaron of Southington, CT; Sarah Judge Delfini, PharmD and her husband Anthony and their twin sons, Ethan and Connor of Highland; Megan Doyle and Douglas Doyle of Ulster Park; Jeffrey Paine and Jordan Belmonte of Poughkeepsie and Robin Paine and her fiancé Brett Thompson of Hopewell Junction; Michael Ladue of Brooklyn; and Nicholas, Caitlin, Thomas and Samantha Banney of Poughkeepsie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Pickles.
Anita was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, in 2013 and her daughter Joan Vercruse (Robert) of Cold Spring in 2016. She was also predeceased by her parents, her sisters Gertrude Ramsey, Bertha Poissant, Hectorine Collins, Bernardine Brown, Beatrice Poissant, and Luella Lavigne; and her brothers Stanley, Phillip and Oscar Poissant.
Calling hours will be Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 4 to 8 pm at The Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main St., Highland, NY 12528. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in Highland, NY with interment to follow at Union Cemetery of Lloyd in Highland.
