Five Hudson Valley school districts made a list of the "worst-graded school districts" in 2019, including one local school district considered the worst.

Niche.com recently analyzed and graded every public school district in the United States based on grades, standardized test scores, diversity, math and reading proficiency, graduation rates, teacher quality and more.

Based on data from Niche, NYUP.COM ranked the 53 worst school districts in "Upstate New York." The website considers anything above Rockland County as "Upstate." Below are the local school districts that made the list.

#49 Tri-Valley Central School District (Sullivan County)
Overall grade: C

  • Percent proficient in reading: 40%
  • Percent graduation rate: 87%

#40 Middletown City School District (Orange County)
Overall grade: C

    • Percent proficient in math: 37%
    • Percent proficient in reading: 37%

#22 Ellenville Central School District (Ulster County)
Overall grade: C

  • Percent proficient in math: 36%
  • Percent proficient in reading: 33%
  • Percent graduation rate: 72%

#20 Fallsburg Central School District (Sullivan County)
Overall grade: C

#1 Poughkeepsie City School District (Dutchess County)
