William E. Terwilliger a lifelong area resident entered into rest Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the New York State Veteran's Home in Montrose. He was 86.

Son of the late William B. and Violet (Scott) Terwilliger, he was born April 21, 1930 in Walden, NY.

William was employed as a Creeler for Firth Carpet Co. before being drafted into the US Army serving from 1951 to 1953 in Korea as a Gunner. He then went onto serve in the Army National Guard from 1953 to 1955. He then joined the US Air Force serving from 1957 to 1960. While serving in the Air Force in Germany, he once had the honor of guarding President Eisenhower's Plane. Upon returning to the US, William worked for General Slicing Machine Co. William worked for many years at Flannery Animal Hospital until illness forced him to retire. He believed in his faith and his Lord. William was a member of the Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, Town of Newburgh Post No. 1420 of American Legion and the Terwilliger's in America, Inc. He still came home every Memorial Day to take part in their memorial services at cemeteries and in their parades.

He cherished all his kind friends that kept in touch with cards, letters and visits.

Survivors include his sisters: Ruth Rodenski of the Town of Newburgh and Lorraine Harris of Millbrook , Elaine Terwilliger of Rosendale, nephews with whom he was especially close, Tim Rodenski and his wife, Ann and Guy Harris and his wife, Thuy; as well as many other nieces and nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his brothers; Brian and Garth Terwilliger, sisters; Charlotte Terwilliger, Constance Chamberlain, Carol Demarest, Lois Hayes and Sharon Fielding.

Visitation for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, April 19st from 4 to 7 p.m. at the White, Venuto & Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Rd., (Rte 32) Newburgh. Funeral service will commence 11 a.m., Thursday, April 20th at Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, 54 Old Little Britain Rd., Newburgh. Pastor Fontella Irons will officiate. Burial to follow at the New Prospect Cemetery in Pine Bush, with Military Honors.
