Did you see those Revolutionary War soldiers standing along Route 9 this weekend?

No, you didn't somehow travel back in time.

The Revolutionary War reenactors from New York's fifth regiment and other groups assembled on Route 9 this Saturday to participate in a symbolic "Guarding of the Supply Depot." The event was held to demonstrate the group's opposition to the proposed Continental Commons, a development plan that would utilize land many believe is of great historical importance. The shopping center plans to include an IHOP restaurant and hotel.

The 70-acre parcel of land at the intersection of I-84 and Route 9 in Fishkill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2009 an archaeological study determined that hundreds of soldiers from the Revolutionary War are actually buried in unmarked graves throughout the Depot, making it the largest known burial site of Revolutionary War soldiers in the country.

According to members of the preservation group, 240 years ago, on the same exact date of Saturday's demonstration, the Fishkill Supply Depot was also guarded by soldiers after it was determined that a local group of Tories were threatening to attack.
