The Village of Wappingers Falls took on a new look this week as it continues to recover from June's devastating fire.

Those barricades and fences surrounding the burned out buildings on Main Street are no more. For eight long months, a row of buildings in the Village of Wappingers Falls has been sectioned off after it went up in flames during a village wide celebration. The buildings are now stable enough to stand on their own and crews continue their restoration work on the 19th century structures.

Matt Alexander, the Village mayor, posted an update of the progress on the Wappingers Rises Facebook page:

Over the last 8 months the village government has worked tirelessly to ensure that each and every building was assessed, reinforced, and readied for future adaptive use. To date, Village engineers working with the Building Department and each building’s consultants came up with plans to both renovate AND restore this incredibly important row of 19th Century buildings...  At this point, with plans in hand, these buildings have roofs and work is progressing in what will be a great renaissance for the village.

The Wappingers Falls Civic Association has spearheaded a "Village Views" art instillation that is now visible in the windows of the buildings currently being restored. Local artists have created inspiring works of art that now tower over the Village as it continues to rise from the ashes.

According to Trent Atkinson, a planning board member for the Village of Wappingers, this is only the beginning of "great things to come" for the village.
