Last year I came across what I think is a secret spot in the Hudson Valley. I later learned it was actually a very popular hiking spot.

Poets Walk is quietly nestled away in the woods of Red Hook, with walking paths, hidden patios and benches with gorgeous views of the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge and the Hudson River.

If you've ever been to Poets Walk you know it's bustling with wildlife. If you plan to visit in the spring and summer months you will most definitely come across a butterfly or two.

On April 28th, from 10am until 2pm, Scenic Hudson Valley will be hosting a tree planting event "Trees for Tribs," at the popular walking site.

They will be planting 100 native tress and shrubs to "enhance water quality and habitat for pollinators such as bees and butterflies." If you decide to help out you get to pick the location of the tree or shrub, dig out the holes, install the trees and then armor them.

Children are encouraged to attend, but if they're under the age of 18 an adult must be with them.

Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty as you will be working in the dirt. You're asked to bring water and lunch as well.

For more information about the Tree for Tribs event at Poets Walk, email Project Manager Anthony Coneski at aconeski@scenichudson.org.

Poets Walk is located at 776 River Rd in Red Hook.
