So you are heading out on vacation? Good for you! Here are a few things that you should do to (with) your house before you close the door and lock it up, the following are from Central Hudson Gas & Electric:

The following is base on an email that CHGE sent, with a few additions:

  • Raise your thermostat, 4 to 6 degrees or turn your air conditioning off completely
  • Clean out your fridge.
  • Take out the trash (Imagine the stink that would be waiting for you when you come home, if you do not do this important step)
  • Turn off lights or put them on a timer.
  • Turn your water heater down a few degrees or put it into vacation mode.
  • Unplug your computer, tv's, microwave, items that you know you will not be using while you are away.
  • Close the blinds or curtains
  • Remember to close and lock all windows and doors
  • Have your mail held at the Post Office, tell them what day you are returning and they will deliver your held mail that day or hold it for you to pick up.

These are just a few things to remember before you head out of the house for a few days. Is there something that you think we should add to the list?
