Uzell "Smitty" Smith of the Town of Newburgh, retired from Highland Ice Cream and Pearl Appliance in Newburgh entered into rest Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was 90.

The son of the late Benjamin and Mabel (Krismeyer ) Smith , Uzell was born March 8, 1926 in Newburgh.

Uzell graduated from NFA in 1944. He proudly served his county in the US Army Air Corp. during 1944 - 1947. He was a life member (64 years) and past lieutenant and vice president and served on the Board of Directors of the Cronomer Valley Fire Dept., was a member of FASNY and OCVFA, and a charter member of CVFD Benevolent Assoc., also served on the Fostertown School District Board for six years. He was proud to be on the September 2013 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Survivors include his sons; Gary Smith and his wife, Debbie of the Town of Newburgh, David Smith and his wife, Susan of Pine Bush; daughter-in-law, Judy Smith-Regalia and her husband, Don of the Town of Newburgh, sister, Mabel Frost of Newburgh; grandchildren: Heather Beigert (Brian), Nicole Chamberlain, Tracie Beatty (Scott), Stefany Lopez (Miguel Jr.) and Robin Smith; five great-grandchildren: Nicholas Chamberlain, Elizabeth Beigert, Jacob Beigert, Miguel Lopez III, and Lorenzo Lopez; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition his parents, Uzell was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mildred, known as "Buttercup" in 2011, son, Edward Smith; daughter, Joy Diane Smith and two brothers; Kenneth T. and Ralph B. Smith.

Visitation will take place Saturday, October 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. at White & Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd., Town of Newburgh.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Sunday, October 9th at the funeral home. Cremation will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
