The United States Postal Service will not be open or operating on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.

According to a press release from the United States Postal Service, the USPS will not be open or operating on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, due to a day of national mourning.

The release states that President Donald J. Trump has proclaimed Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, as a National Day of Mourning in remembrance of former President George H.W. Bush. The USPS said in the statement that to honor the 41st President of the United States and his contributions to the United States Postal Service, that they will be suspending regular mail deliveries and all retail operations on December 5.

However, the USPS did state in their press release that they would provide very limited package delivery on that day. The reasoning is so their system remains fluid and does not impact their delivery operations or customers.

If you have to mail something, it would be wise to do it sooner than later. Even with the limited delivery service on Wednesday, December 5, you know things will get backed up. Especially during the winter holiday season.
