An upper Hudson Valley man is accused of driving over two times the legal limit of intoxication and running from police.

New York State Police from the Kinderhook arrested 56-year-old Richard C. Fuerst, of Valatie for driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

State Police pulled over Fuerst on State Farm Road in the Town of Kinderhook after he allegedly crossed into the oncoming lane several times. Police say Fuerst was found to be intoxicated at the time of the stop. He stated he had been drinking at a friend's house and a local bar.

Fuerst failed all standardized field sobriety tests and when he was being placed under arrest he tried to run from Troopers, officials say.

Fuerst was detained and transported to State Police offices in Kinderhook where he provided a breath sample that allegedly revealed a blood alcohol content of .16%. Double the legal limit.

According to police because Fuerst was previously charged with DWI, he was arraigned in the Town of Kinderhook Court and released on his own recognizance to reappear at a later date.
