Almost all of the schools in the area are closed Tuesday as the Hudson Valley braces for what could be a major snowstorm.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for Sullivan and Delaware counties and a Winter Weather Advisory for Dutchess, Ulster, Orange and Putnam counties Tuesday until Wednesday morning.

Snow is expected to start falling in the area late Tuesday morning or afternoon and become heavier at times later in the day. Snow will likely mix with rain late Tuesday in the southern areas of Orange, Dutchess, and Ulster counties.

The National Weather Service is predicting 6-9 inches of snow for Sullivan County and 2-6 inches of snow for Orange, Dutchess, Ulster and Putnam counties. Higher totals are expected in the higher elevations.

Hudson Valley Weather continues to forecast 4 to 10 inches of snow for the Catskills, 2 to 8 inches for the mid and upper Hudson Valley and a coating to 5 inches of snow for the lower Hudson Valley.
