A year after his handler passed away a former Ulster County Sheriff’s Office K-9 has died.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office sadly announced the passing of former Corrections K-9 Jagger.

Jagger retired last year when his handler, Corrections Officer Dwain Caunitz, passed away. Jagger lived with his family until his sudden death on Saturday.

Jagger began working at the Ulster County Jail with Caunitz in July of 2010. He is credited with stopping a lot of illegal contraband from entering the jail.

“The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Jagger for his years of dedicated and exemplary service to the citizens of Ulster County and members of this agency,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

Jagger will be cremated and laid to rest with his Caunitz. His name will be etched into the K-9 memorial stone at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center.
