A 16-year town employee is accused of stealing $1,000 from the Kiwanis Ice Arena.

On Wednesday, Saugerties detectives initiated an investigation into the theft of $1,000 from a safe at the Kiwanis Ice Arena Admissions Office.

An investigation determined that a sixteen-year employee of the Town of Saugerties Buildings and Grounds Department was the suspect.

Barry E. Mower, 33, of Saugerties turned himself into police detective after being contacted in regards to their investigation. Mower cooperated with authorities and admitted that he had took the money, police say.

Mower was charged with grand larcey, a felony.

Mower was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to return to the Town of Saugerties Justice Court on June 14.
