Salvatore R. Mula of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Friday, December 1, 2017 at Somers Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was 90.
Son of the late Alfonso and Rosalia Lupino Mula, he was born on September 27, 1927 in Brooklyn. He married the former Elsie Buonaiuto on September 8, 1951 in Brooklyn. Mrs. Mula preceded him in death, passing on February 10, 2017.
Mr. Mula proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II until he was honorably discharged. He went on to own and operate Mula Insurance Agency until 1987, after which he enjoyed his time spent working in Marist security, retiring in 2005. He was also a former sailing instructor at the college. In his spare time, Sal enjoyed giving back to his community: he was a former volunteer firefighter for the New Hamburg Fire District, former president and coach for Wappingers Little League, a member of the VFW Post 5913 in Wappingers Falls and the American Legion Post 427 in Wappingers Falls. Sal was also a member of Faith Assembly of God in Poughkeepsie.
Survivors include his children, Mark A. Mula and his wife, Maura of Westport, CT, David M. Mula and his wife, Melissa of Cortlandt Manor, and Paula Baird and her husband, Thomas of Wappingers Falls; brothers, John Mula and his wife, Toni of Pennsylvania, and Jerry Mula and his wife, Diane of Pennsylvania; sister, Carmela Benedict of Holtsville, Long Island; grandchildren, Abigail Baird, Rachel Baird, Monica Mula, Matthew Mula, David Mula, II, Kayleigh Mula, and Isabella Rose Mula; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Sal was predeceased by his brother, Sebastian.
Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held following visitation at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls, with military honors.
