Ron Howard Films Recreation of 'Opie' Moment in Hudson Valley

What is Ron Howard doing in the Hudson Valley?

The legendary actor and director posted a picture to his Instagram account on August 20 that has some local residents very excited. The photo shows Howard and his wife smiling for a selfie at the shores of the Hudson River.

The caption says that the photo was taken "not far from Woodstock." Although no more details are known about Howard's location when the picture was taken, the background looks very much like the view from Falling Waters Preserve in Saugerties.

It wouldn't be a stretch to assume the director is in town to work on his new film. A couple of weeks ago Howard began work on a movie based on the book Hillbilly Elegy. Shooting started in Ohio, but then moved to New Haven Connecticut.

The Hudson Valley has been the site of countless movie and television filmings this year, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Hillbilly Elegy began shooting some scenes in our area. However, it looks like Howard was here strictly for vacation. Another photo posted to Twitter reveals that the Happy Days star booked a few nights at the Woodstock Inn.

The Inn is located on three acres just outside the village of Woodstock and is a short walk away from Tinker Street. While enjoying a stream on the bed and breakfast's property, Howard couldn't resist channeling his inner "Opie" by recreating the iconic opening shot from The Andy Griffith Show.

We're so glad Ron Howard and his wife discovered that they love the Hudson Valley as much as we do. In a message posted to Twitter, the actor said he and his wife really enjoyed their stay and promised they'll be back.
