The Rip Van Winkle Council of Boy Scouts of America based out Kingston is hosting a special event for children in Ulster and Greene Counties on Tuesday night September 25 at all elementary schools in both counties.  Rocket into Scouting, is a recruitment event for children and parents to learn more about Cub Scouts in their area.

The idea is pretty simple, parents and children go their local elementary school Tuesday night anytime between 6:30pm to 8pm.  The cub scout pack for that area will be there to meet with everyone.  Any child that signs up and fills out an application will receive a free rocket.  Which they will launch with their pack at a later date.

This is only for children in Ulster and Greene counties, as the council oversees those counties.  Other councils oversee other counties, like Orange and Dutchess.

Cub scouts has changed a few things over the past year.  They now accept girls into the program.  That means, that both boys and girls can enter the program.  Also, now Cub Scouts begins at the Kindergarten age level and goes until fifth grade.

If you are interested in cub scouts, and you don’t have a recruitment event in your area.  Check out beascout.org to find a local pack near you.
