Update 2:30 p.m: We have updated this story as police released information regarding the person who jumped.

We're getting eyewitness reports of a scene on the Newburgh Beacon Bridge this morning.

According to reports there was a possible jumper on the Eastbound span of the Newburgh Beacon Bridge this morning. Facebook postings and calls from eyewitnesses tell us that the Newburgh Fire Department,West Point Fire Department, Middlehope Fire Department is working with state police at the scene.

We also have word that a command post has been set up at the Newburgh Yacht Club as police boats may be deployed to search for the individual.

A 23-year-old man from Wappinger had jumped off of the bridge into the Hudson River, police say.

The Newburgh Fire Department dispatched marine units to search the river for the victim. Several hours later, the victim’s body was recovered approximately three miles north of the bridge.

There is little official information right now except that police activity has closed the right shoulder of I-84 on the beginning of the Newburgh Beacon Bridge. We will update this page with more information as it is released.
