The Hudson Valley has lost a beloved restaurant owner.

Kenneth Hallett, the owner of Southside Restaurant and Cafe in Poughkeepsie, passed away on Wednesday. According to his family, Hallett died unexpectedly after a brief illness.

Southside Restaurant and Cafe has been serving up legendary chicken wings for decades. The casual spot in the Hudson Plaza near Price Chopper on Route 9 has been a local favorite for many who remember Hallett's fun sense of humor and passion for food.

Hallett's family is establishing a scholarship for children who are also interested in entering the restaurant business. In lieu of flowers, you can make donations to the fund at Southside Restaurant, 2585 South Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. For more information you can call the restaurant at 845 454-0379.

There will be a viewing at William G. Miller and Son Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie on Monday from 4pm to 8pm. A service will be held at  St. Martin De Porres Church in Poughkeepsie at 10am on Tuesday, August 1.
