Police are hoping you can identify a woman who may have been trying to abduct a stranger's baby at a Hudson Valley Walmart.

On Monday around 9 p.m., the woman in the above picture approached another woman and her 8-month old child on the check-out line at the Kingston Walmart, police say. The child was secured in a car seat in a shopping cart.

Police were told the woman was overly friendly to the child and tried to take the child from a shopping cart car seat.

The mother firmly told the stranger, "the child is buckled into the seat," according to the Town of Ulster Police.

After the stranger was warned by the mother, the woman walked away from the area, police say.

She's described as being 5'2" with dark brown hair and between the ages of 50 and 60. She was seen wearing a white knit sweater and floral design leggings.

Anyone that can identify the woman is asked to call the Ulster Police Department at 845-382-1111 and ask for Det. William Moylan. You can also email him at wemoylan@ulsterpolice.com.
