Police are warning people in the Hudson Valley about a potential failed child abduction attempt.

Thursday, the City of Peekskill Police Department received a complaint of a possible attempted luring of a child. A 13-year-old boy said he was walking on Spring Street around 8:15 p.m., when he spotted a white colored van with black colored bumpers and tinted windows parked on the street.

The boy told police as he approached the van, a tall heavy set white male, described as approximately 40-50 years of old, with dark bushy hair, clean shaven, wearing a brown colored “Polo” brand shirt and blue jeans, red colored Nike “Hyper Dunk” sneakers, with a Spider tattoo on the left hand, and a blue colored charm bracelet on the right wrist, exited the passenger seat of the van and asked the 13-year-old if he needed a ride home.

Then the driver, described as a white male in his twenties with a medium build, dark colored short cropped hair, tattoos covering both arms and neck, wearing blue colored Nike basketball shorts, a white colored tank top and having a nose ring in the right nostril, exited the vehicle holding a large white colored bag and stated “Come on I have candy.”

The boy then ran in the opposite direction and called police.

Police are praising the boy for his smart actions and suggesting to all parents to remind your child of what to do if a stranger approaches them.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Peekskill Police Department at 914-737-8000.
