An Ulster County woman is accused of providing a man who legally can’t own a firearm with a shotgun. The man allegedly fired 13 shots from inside his home and hit a nearby gas station.

As previously reported, last month, Saugerties police responded to shots fired near the Citgo Mart on Mount Airy Road in the Town of Saugerties.

According to the initial caller, someone was shooting and the Citgo Mart was hit by shrapnel. Police soon received another call reporting a burglary at a home on Route 32, across from the Citgo Mart.

The home owner, 32-year-old Tyrell J. Schleede, told responding officers that he began shooting out the windows of his home at a group of people who attempted to break in.

An investigation, in addition to a search of the area by officers, resulted in no evidence in support of Schleede’s claims, police say.

Police allege that shortly after Schleede’s girlfriend and 3-year-old child left the home, Schleede loaded a .20 gauge shot gun and began shooting inside his home.

A total of 13 rounds were fired through the front living room window, bedroom windows, kitchen window and the front door of the residence, police say. At least one shot hit the Citgo Mart.

On Wednesday, Saugerties Police Detectives arrested Jamie Lynn Gardecki, who was residing with Schleede at the time of the original incident in February.

The shotgun used by Schleede was purchased by and was owned by Gardecki, police say. At the time she purchased the shotgun, she allegedly falsified information on Federal ATF Form which must be completed prior to any purchase of a firearm.

Gardecki was charged with offering a false instrument for filing, a felony,

Gardecki, was aware of Schleede's past criminal history, knew he was not permitted to have access to firearms and made no efforts to ensure that the shotgun was secured and not accessible to Schleede, police say.

Neither the shotgun nor ammunition were secured in the residence, resulting in Gardecki being additionally charged with a misdemeanor for her failure to prevent Schleede from obtaining access to the firearm and ammunition.

Gardecki was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Court and released on her own recognizance pending further action.
