A paroled man is now behind bars without bail for allegedly beating a female acquaintance near a local post office.

On Sunday, Monticello police arrested 32-year-old Daniel Burgos of Monticello for assault, a felony, and violation of parole.

Sunday around 2:30 a.m., the Monticello Police Department received a 911 call about a man assaulting a woman on the sidewalk near the Monticello Post Office on Broadway in the Village of Monticello.

Responding officers found a 28-year-old woman, an acquaintance of Burgos, bleeding heavily from the face and also suffering from a serious left eye injury.

The female told officers that Burgos assaulted her, police say.

Burgos was found at the scene and taken into custody. The unnamed victim was transported to a local hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Officers were able to review nearby video surveillance which allegedly showed Burgos repeatedly punching, kicking and dragging the victim on the sidewalk and ithe road.

Burgos was arraigned Village of Monticello Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending further court action.

Burgos is also currently on parole for a reckless endangerment conviction, officials say.
