Following an extensive investigation, an arrest has been made in connection to a burglary that took place in September 2016.

In September, the New Paltz Police Department began an investigation after receiving a report that two subjects had entered a private residence and stole property while the residents were sleeping.

Area surveillance video was obtained showing the subjects and the vehicle they used committing the crimes. The subjects were unknown to the victims.

In the months that followed, extensive interviews and follow-up was conducted. Recently, two suspects were identified.

On March 9th, 2017, Prashant Shahi, 19, of New Paltz was located and interviewed by New Paltz Police where he was subsequently charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property.

Most of the stolen property from the incident has been recovered.

Shahi was processed and arraigned, and released to reappear in court later this month.

The New Paltz Police Department is continuing their investigation and additional charges are expected against the second suspect who has not been placed into custody at this time.
