An Ulster county man was caught robbing a diner, after police were investigating a suspicious vehicle.

A New Paltz police officer was on patrol around 9:00 am Wednesday morning, when he noticed a suspicious vehicle parked outside of an out of business diner in the Town of New Paltz.

As the officer approached the front door of the business, he observed a male inside the foyer area turn around and run back into the building.

Responding officers established a perimeter of the building and gained entry to the business though an unsecured window. Officers located the defendant in the basement of the building.

Further investigation revealed that the man was stealing items from the diner and putting them in his vehicle prior to the patrols arrival.

Doyle F. Gosney, 49 of New Paltz, NY was arrested and charged with Burglary third-degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Ignition Interlock Device.

The AUO and Ignition Interlock Device charges stem Mr. Gosney driving to the diner with a revoked driver's license due to a previous DWI conviction.

He was arraigned and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond. He is scheduled back in court later this month.
