Police Investigate 48-Year-Old Hudson Valley Mob Murder
Police are still hoping for help as they continue to investigate a nearly 50-year-old murder in the Hudson Valley. It’s believed the killing is mob related.
On Jan. 20, 1969, police found a white man dead in a brook a quarter of a mile from Route 17 in Tuxedo.
An investigation revealed the victim had been shot in the head. An autopsy concluded that the victim was killed sometime in 1968, as the body was badly decomposed.
The man still hasn’t been identified. He was discovered wearing brown pants, brown socks and a white undershirt. He’s described as being 5’5”, between 45 and 55 years old and weighing around 145 pounds.
The victim was also found wearing a gold Saint Christopher medal and a Longine Wittnaur watch that had been repaired in New Jersey in January of 1967.
According to State Police, a number of murder victims were found dumped in Orange County and the surrounding counties in the late 1960s and 70s. It was believed that this case and the others were mob related.
No family member has come forward to help identify the victim, police say. The investigation is the oldest unidentified person case in New York State.
