A Putnam County bus monitor was arrested for allegedly hitting and threatening a child.

On January 11, 2018, school officials became aware of an incident that occurred between the bus monitor and a student.

The school immediately notified School Resource Officer, Deputy Ryan McMahon, who immediately responded to the Putnam Valley Middle School.

Putnam Couty Sheriff's arrived at the school, and were informed that the student had allegedly been struck by the bus monitor while on the school bus.

The school bus is owned and operated by Montauk Bus Company.

After interviewing witnesses and reviewing video and audio footage supplied by the bus company, sheriff's made an arrest.

The bus monitor, identified as Joseph Masi, 65, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. waws arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Harassment.

Masi was arraigned in the Putnam Valley Justice Court, and released on his own recognizance.

Masi is due back in court at a later date.
