State Park officials are tired of visitors doing this when they drive through the parks.

The two woman pictured above seem so happy and eager to explore. Too bad they forgot to put their seat belts on, as so many visitors to state parks seem to do each year.

The New York State Police, the New York State Park Police and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee are teaming up to ensure that visitors to state parks are buckling up.

"BUNY in the Parks" is an enforcement campaign to ensure that visiting motorists and their passengers properly buckle up their seat belts while traveling inside state parks, and the importance of securing the youngest passengers in approved child seats.

In 2017 during the BUNY in the Parks campaign, 43,089 total tickets were issued. Tickets included 929 tickets for child restraint violations and 1,921 tickets for adult seat belt violations.

The campaign will be held starting July 14, and will run through August, 13, 2018.

"The safety of our visitors is our greatest priority and through our partnership with other law enforcement agencies, we can continue to administer and educate the public on proper seat-belt usage to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all motorists that enter our state parks," State Park Police Chief David Page said.

Always keep in mind that a driver must make sure that all passengers obey the law. The driver can be fined $25 to $100 and receive up to three driver license penalty points for each violation.
