An Orange County 20-year-old was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a victim 23 times.

Jonathan Rizzo, 20, of Cornwall, was arraigned in Orange County Court on charges of 2nd-degree attempted murder, 1st-degree assault, 2nd-degree assault, 4th-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.

On April 6, 2016, Rizzo alleged stabbed a person he knew 23 times with a folding knife. The alleged stabbing took place outside a bar in the Village of Cornwall following an argument between Rizzo and the victim. Officials say, Rizzo tried to conceal the knife and clothes he was wearing.

“Violence, whether caused by knives or guns, can simply not be tolerated in our communities,” said Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler in a statement. “Those who use violence to settle disputes harm not only those whom they actually injure, but all who have a right to feel safe in their communities.

Rizzo was sent to Orange County Jail. Bail was set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond. He faces 25 years in prison if convicted of the attempted murder charge. He’s due back in court on May 6.
