An odd odor coming from a motel room in the Hudson Valley led to an Ohio man’s arrest for allegedly turning his motel room into a meth lab.

Recently, New York State Police in Montgomery in conjunction with the Town of Cornwall Police Department, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the New York State Police CCSERT Team, and Hudson Valley CNET responded to a report of a suspicious odor coming from room 12 at the Cadet Motel located in Cornwall.

The investigation revealed that 42-year-old Justin A. Cantrell of West Portsmouth, Ohio was in possession of chemical reagents and equipment for the purpose of producing methamphetamine, police say.

Cantrell was charged with third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, a class D felony, second-degree criminal possession of methamphetamine manufacturing material, and two-counts counts of seventh-degree criminal possession, misdemeanors.

Cantrell was arraigned in Cornwall Town Court and remanded to the Orange County jail on $50,000 cash and $100,000 bond.
