It seems many New Yorkers are taking Billy Joel’s “moving out,” words to heart. More people have moved out of New York than any other state.

Over the past six years, New York State has a net loss of 847,000 people who moved to other states, according to new census estimates.

"It should raise concerns that people don't want to stay here,” Ken Girardin of Empire Center told WNYT. “People aren't moving here. That's a reflection of the economy. That's a reflection of state policies."

Over the past few years, the Empire State’s total population has remained around 20 million. Meanwhile Florida has seen over 866,000 people move to state, which helped the Sunshine State pass New York as the third biggest state in the country.

"They don't want to shovel anymore, they don't want the cold, they just want warm weather," Kellie Kieley of Gucciardo Real Estate Group said to WNYT.

What do you think of people moving out of the state? Do you plan to stay? Or does your future hold warmer weather? Let us know in the comments section or our Facebook page.
