A new bill is being proposed to stop the President, Vice President, and Congress from getting paid if the government shuts down again.

13 WHAM reports that three Congressmen have introduced a bill to temporarily halt the President, Vice President, and members of Congress from getting paid while the federal government is shut down. Rep. Jared Golden, D (D-Maine), Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) and Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.), are the members of Congress sponsoring the bill. The bill is called the Solidarity in Salary Act of 2019.

According to 13 WHAM, the pay of the President, Vice President, and members of Congress would go into escrow while the federal government is shut down. Once the government reopens, the pay that was withheld would be released.

The three representatives that are introducing the bill are calling it 'common sense legislation', according to 13 WHAM. Personally, I am shocked that this isn't a law already. 800,000 federal employees went without pay for 35 days, but the people responsible for the shutdown were still getting paid? Absurd.
