Plans for a luxurious new Hyatt Place hotel on Route 9 are in the works, with an opening date planned for Fall of 2018.

The Hyatt Place will offer a 24/7 eat and drink gallery menu with freshly prepared food available around the clock. There will also be a full bar with premium beers, wine and spirits. The hotel will feature a conference room and other flexible spaces that can be utilized for business or social events.

Land is already being prepared for the project on the southbound side of Route 9 just North of the Poughkeepsie Galleria next to Extra Space Storage near Bonefish Grill. According to Houlihan Lawrence associate broker, Nicholas Licari, the Hyatt Place is expected to have 93 rooms and $10 million in financing was secured to build the project. Licari says the hotel "will be a great benefit to Dutchess County with boosting tourism, providing jobs, and increasing tax revenue for the local economy."

As this beautiful new hotel rises from the ground it will cast a shadow over the remains of the Mercury Grand Hotel just across Route 9. Recently showcased on our tour of the 21 abandoned businesses on Route 9, the hotel is closed and in major disrepair.

What do you think about plans for the Hyatt Place? Do you think it will boost the local economy and help fill those abandoned buildings along Route 9? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
