The popular streaming service is looking to get ahead and score some major awards.

Netflix is allegedly looking to buy movie theaters in New York. According to Independent, the streaming service is looking to take their original films to the next level. Specifically, they are eyeing Oscar nominations and wins.

According to the article, Netflix has been aiming for an Oscar nomination since they release their first original film, Beasts Of No Nation. That movie was released in 2015. Only Mudbound and Okja, both original films from Netflix, have received Oscar nominations, with Mudbound receiving 3 nominations. No Netflix originals have won an Oscar.

The article states that there is no official deal yet, but Netflix is focusing on Los Angeles and New York for theaters to buy. There were rumors spreading that Netflix sought to purchase Landmark Theaters, owned in part by Mark Cuban, but a representative for Netflix dismissed the rumors.
