Update: 2:15 p.m.: It’s believed that a car that fled a Dutchess County stabbing caused the fatal Mid-Hudson Bridge two-car accident.

From earlier:

Prepare for a traffic nightmare. The Mid Hudson Bridge will be closed for several hours on Wednesday morning.

Many Hudson Valley commuters have a tough choice this morning: Drive down to the Newburgh Beacon Bridge or up to the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge.

A motor vehicle accident has closed the span that connects Highland and Poughkeepsie leaving some motorists stranded. Hudson Valley Post newsman, Bobby Welber, discovered the closure when he arrived at the bridge after traveling from Newburgh. His only option was to backtrack south and start over again at the Newburgh Beacon Bridge.

Town of Lloyd police posted a message this morning before 5am stating that the bridge would be closed for "several hours." The overnight motor vehicle accident on the Mid-udson is under investigation this morning. Officials say police activity will keep the bridge closed for a long period of time.

WPDH traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, is saying the fatal accident happened early this morning. Reports claim there were at least two fatalities. Police on the scene are telling motorists that the bridge will not reopen until "at least 8 or 9am" this morning. Officials, however, are telling commuters to prepare for the bridge to be closed until 10am.

We will have more updates on the Mid Hudson Bridge closure throughout the morning, so be sure tune in to live traffic updates on 101.5 WPDH, WPDH.com or listen live on our mobile app. Check back for more information as it's released.
