WAPPINGERS FALLS – Matthew R. Herring, 24, a lifelong area resident, died on August 25, 2017 at home.

Matthew was born in Poughkeepsie on August 19, 1993. During his childhood, he played for the East Fishkill Little League, belonged to Boy Scouts of America Troop #48 at the Hopewell Reformed Church, and played lacrosse for the Wappingers Warriors. He was a 2012 graduate of John Jay High School where he played on the football and wrestling teams. He also enjoyed his cars. He was employed as a machine operator at his family’s business, Herring Sanitation, in Fishkill and was also a Sailing Coach at the Chelsea Yacht Club.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Jason Herring and Patricia Fell Herring; his sister, Ashlyn Herring; his grandparents, Sharon and James Herring; his aunts and uncles, Tara and John Ashburn, Amy Herring, Jonathan Herring, Angela Weir-Hues, Alan Herring, William and Lynn Fell, Stephen and Sue Fell, Robert and Liz Fell, Michael and Marie Fell, and Clive and Fran Lay. Matthew also leaves behind many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Suzanne and Franklin Fell.

Matthew will be remembered as a loving and giving young man. If you knew him, you loved him. He lived his life in full throttle, and his smile lit up every room he walked into. He never gave up on his family….and they never gave up on him.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 am at the funeral home followed by burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
