Mathilde Metz Albert, aged 85 years, of Elizaville, NY, passed away from complications related to Alzheimer’s, surrounded her family on Saturday, June 17, 2017.

In 1931, Mathilde Metz was born and raised in the small German village of Langenleiten. In 1954, Mathilde, her husband Erich and their young son, Theodore traveled to the United States by passenger ship, hoping for new economic opportunities. This year, Mathilde and Erich celebrate 65 years of marriage.

Even with the great distance from her homeland, Mathilde remained committed to maintaining to close connections to family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Through phone calls, letters and visitors from the US and Germany, she continuously nurtured these relationships.

Both Mathilde and Erich worked for several employers before buying their own business in Yonkers in 1972. As successful as they were, they went on to own two more businesses. Their business partnership ended with their retirement in Elizaville, NY.

Mathilde is survived by her husband, Erich, her son Theodore and her daughter-in-law, Susan. She is also survived by her sister Elfriede Metz Nollmann of Yonkers, NY, her niece Nancy Nollmann Waldron of Huntsville, AL, nephew Erhard Nollmann of Clearwater, FL, nephews Wolfgang and Erhard Metz of Langenleiten, and several great nieces and nephews in Germany and the US.

Mathilde’s memorial mass will be held at Saint Kateri Church, Lagrangeville, NY on Monday, July 10 at 10:00 AM.
