Martin L. Smith, a Highland Resident, Dies at 69

Martin L. Smith, 69, of Highland, NY, passed away on February 3, 2018 in Vassar Bros. Medical Center. He was born on July 12, 1948 in Binghamton, NY, the son of Charles & Marian Keough Smith. Martin married Rafaela D. Juncosa on September 11, 1971 in St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. She survives at home.
Martin was a Technician for IBM in E. Fishkill, NY. A great husband, father, grandfather and a very gentle man, Martin enjoyed camping with his family. He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Survivors include his son: Richard (Gretchen) Smith of Highland, NY; brother: Richard G. Smith of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Logan & Gunnar. There are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother: Richard G. Smith.
Visitation is Monday, February 5, 2018, 4-7 PM, at the Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, 10 AM in St. Augustine's Church, 55 Main St., Highland, NY 12528. Burial with Military Honors will take place in the spring in St. Peter's Cemetery.
