Police are investigating after a married couple was found dead inside their Hudson Valley home in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

On Sunday around 6:30 p.m., Middletown police were notified through Orange County 911 of a potential death investigation at a home on Monhagen Avenue in the City of Middletown.

Police responded and talked with a male resident who said a man and woman were dead inside the home from apparent gunshot wounds. The unnamed man didn't see the shooting, police say.

An investigation conducted by the City of Middletown Police Department Detective Division, in conjunction with investigators from the New York State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, revealed that Dennis Hercules, 58, of Middletown and his wife, Jasminn Emanuel, 52, were engaged in an apparent domestic dispute, which ended with Hercules fatally shooting Emanuel and then himself, police say.

There doesn't appear to be any other involved parties and the weapon used was legally possessed by Hercules, according to police.

The investigation into this incident will continue, but no additional suspects are being sought at this time, officials say.
