Margaret L. Millspaugh, 84, of New Windsor NY and longtime area resident, went to Heaven peacefully surrounded by her loving family at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh NY.

Margaret was born in New Berlin, NY on August 4, 1933, the second of seven children. The daughter of the late Alfred M. and Ruth Esau Runion, she always spoke fondly of her family and the farm which they grew up on during the depression, and the hard but gratifying work of pitching hay, milking cows, the warm family kitchen with the wood fired stove where they canned the vegetables and fruits to get them through the long winter months. She learned from an early age the value of family & faith, of hard work, putting others before herself, characteristics that would follow her throughout her lifetime which she later taught to her children.

Margaret graduated from Fredonia College in 1955 receiving her Masters in Music Education and worked as a music teacher in Cornwall, Newburgh and Wallkill schools. Music was her passion and she often mentioned how much she loved and missed being in front of the classroom full of kids. She also greatly enjoyed attending the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra concerts. Margaret was active member of the Vails Gate United Methodist Church and formerly the First United Methodist Church in Newburgh.

Upon moving to Orange County, Margaret met and married Robert A. Millspaugh and had 34 wonderful years together before his passing in 1996. Left to honor her legacy are her children Roberta Sheets (Joel), Natalie Dickman (Bob), Nancy Millspaugh (Tom Phillips), Cindy White (Robbie). Also her beloved grand-children, Robert Dickman, Kristina Dickman, Sarah White, Liam White and Ian White. Margaret was the fond sister of her surviving siblings Gladys Williford of GA, Stephen Runion of NY, Valarie Jones of IL and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by siblings Sarita Fiske, Corrine Shamey and John Runion.

We are truly thankful to her wonderful caregivers during this time; Dr. Fauzia Paracha, Dr. Paul Saladino, Dr. Evan Hawkins and all the staff at St. Luke’s Cornwall 3rd floor as well as the many friends and neighbors who visited her and kept her encouraged and happy through all her difficult times and trials.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday December 10, 2017 between 12-2:30 p.m. with a closing memorial service from 2:30 -3:00 pm at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to Vails Gate Methodist Church, 854 Blooming Grove Turnpike, New Windsor, NY 12553.
