Marceliano Velez Jr., A New Windsor Resident, Dies at 63

Marceliano Velez Jr. a resident of New Windsor and a retired City of New York Corrections Officer at Rikers Island, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh. He was 63.

The son of the late Marceliano Sr. and Laura (Rodriguez) Velez, Marceliano was born on March 21, 1953 in Brooklyn, NY. He married his beloved Noelia (Acevedo) Velez on

July 2, 1977. Noelia survives at home.  Marceliano was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, New Windsor, the Knights of Columbus #444 and a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels.

In addition to his wife, Noelia, Marceliano is survived by his daughters, Vanessa Finnerty and her husband, Thomas, Adrianne Torres and her husband, Edwin and stepdaughter, Betzaida Jordan; his beloved granddaughter, Olivia Grace Finnerty.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Friday, March 3 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, March 4 at St. Joseph’s Church, New Windsor. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
