Saugerties police, New York State Police, and Ulster County Sheriff's Office are investigating a homicide that took place  in Saugerties. 

Rameen L. Perry, 40, was fatally stabbed at a home in the Village of Saugerties, and the suspect was caught hours later on a train in Washington, D.C., according to a press release.

Police responded to a 911 call early Thursday morning. Upon arrival, police discovered Perry on the second floor of the residence. Perry had sustained several stab wounds. He was transported to Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect, Earl T. Edwards, 26, of Saugerties, had fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Edwards was located on a passenger train in Washington, D.C. He was taken into custody by plain clothes Amtrak Police.
