A man was arrested following a traffic stop in Ulster County, for allegedly possessing over one pound of marijuana.

At approximately 8:44 p.m. New York State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 in the Town of Plattekill for an equipment violation.

During the interview of the driver for the traffic violation, police established probable cause to search the vehicle.

The driver, Steven Nevarez, 35, of Bronx, N.Y., was found to be in possession of more than one pound of marijuana.

Nevarez was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, vehicle and traffic violations.

He was arraigned in the Town of Plattekill Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail $5,000 bond.

Nevarez is scheduled to return to court this week.
