NEWBURGH – Louise M. Tonyes, a resident of Newburgh since 2013, formerly of Garrison and Shrub Oak, died on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor. She lived a youthful 90 years.
Daughter of the late Vincenzo and Jenny (Zatto) Ciavattini, she was born in Jamaica, Queens on May 13, 1927.
Louise worked as a Physical Therapy Aide and was a member of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. She enjoyed many hobbies, such as gardening, painting, playing with her dogs, travel, shopping, and visits to the casino. She loved babies and children. She cherished spending time with her family and showering them with gifts.
On November 26, 1949, she married Henry J. Tonyes, Jr. at St. Monica’s Church in Queens. They were married for 68 years. Henry survives at home.
Additional survivors include her children and their spouses: Henry J. Tonyes III (Karen) of Moseley, VA, John H. Tonyes (Colleen) of East Fishkill, Monica L. Anderson (Dane) of Newburgh, and Vincent J. Tonyes (Kimberly) of Beacon; her grandchildren: Michelle (Jeff), Jennifer (Steve), Stephanie (Mark), Samantha (Dave), Paige (Ryan), Shaun (Jenna), Dane (Megan), Zachary, Sophia, Vincent, Joshua, and Jackson; her great-grandchildren: Elaina, Jacob, Antonio, Katherine, Alyssa, Riley, and Emily; and many other loving relatives & friends.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Jane H. Tonyes, as well as her sister, Theresa Brooks.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 18 at the McHoul Funeral Home, 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
