Long Vacant Eyesore in Marlboro Getting Torn Down
For over a decade, Dickey’s Diner on the west side of 9W in Marlboro has been sitting vacant, providing nothing more than a place to pull over and hope for cell service between Newburgh and Highland. That is about to change.
According to Scott Parker, Director of Facilities for CPD Energy Corp. of New Paltz, conditional approvals have been granted by the Town of Marlborough for the construction of a new Mobil gas station which will include a Dunkin’ Donuts. The approvals are contingent upon receiving a highway work permit from NYS DOT. “This process will be completed now that the site plan details have been finalized with the planning board” said Parker.
Passers-by may have noticed that site clearing has begun on the property that was purchased by Chestnut Petroleum Distributors Inc. ten years ago. In those ten years, the property has been in design development and has been going through the municipal approval steps for the last 36 months.
To help alleviate traffic coming and going from the bucolic town center, 9W will be widened to allow for the addition of a northbound left turn lane into the property as well as a northbound acceleration lane out of the property.
The new facility, slated to open in 2018, will create 25-30 construction jobs and then provide 25-30 full and part-time positions once the store is open.
